Winter Road [UE4]

Decided to update this scene with new trees as the previous ones looked a bit jarring. I decided to make them in Maya as opposed to SpeedTree as I felt this gave me more creative control over the placement/orientation of the foliage. I also decided to add some rocks, dry bushes and a snow fall particle effect.

The landscape blends together two types of snow - pocked and soft - using layer blend nodes. I used splines for the road/tracks and blended them into the landscape by using the "DitherTemporalAA" node in Unreal. I also used this for the snow mounds which are scattered about the scene. Various assets (road sign, rocks, trees) utilise a snow shader that allows me to moderate both the amount and direction of snow on the asset via material instancing. Finally, the mountain range in the background was made using WorldMachine.
